With leadership comes a lot of responsibilities and sacrifice. So far I have not got to accomplish a lot of the tasks I would have to do if we were actually in school. But since we aren’t we all have had to adapt. So far as Freshman Representatives, we have spread positivity and made sure our classmates are feeling included over social media. I have also have helped with class t-shirts and handing them out. But we still have to worry about Homecoming and dances. I wouldn’t be able to be doing what I doing so far with my job without the help of Core Camp and the meeting with Scott Backavich. Scott taught us things about leadership I would never even think about. For example, He pointed out that as a Leadership class we ask things from our peers way more then what we give them. Core Camp taught me that yes we are in Leadership but for me succeded as a great leader, I need to but myself first sometimes. These two major events have taught me what actually leadership is about and that it is so much different than an Elementary Student Council.
With all of this, I still have concerns. For example how so we split jobs between all 8 Freshman Representatives because I know that I have felt let out sometimes. Also, how do we build the bond we need to succeed as a group if we can’t see each other in person. Even with my concerns, I would like to shout out Kylee Brown. She is always there to help everyone, she steps up when we need help, and she always brings positivity to the group even when things get hard. So thank you Kylee for everything you do and bring to your peers and always putting in your best work.
Trough this time it’s been a challenge to figure out ways to make sure our peers are having a good high school experience. As a Freshman Representative group, we have planned zooms with our freshman, and have reached out to them via social media. We have created a class of 24 Instagram page that the freshman has access to. On there we have done positive shout outs, we have made days where they can ask us questions or concerns they have.
Even though this ruff time, we are trying to be the best Freshman Representatives that we can be for you

Being new to the Ripon High family, I would say these past two months have been the busiest for us, freshmen. It first started with Fall Fest, which has been the most stressful thing in my opinion so far. I think the hardest part for us was picking a theme. Eventually, we were able to settle on the theme of Fall Fashion, and sweater weather dress-up day was an overwhelming success. Following the completion of Fall Fest, we transitioned into Dude Be Nice. For this event, we were elected to write dad jokes for Mr.Perez. On November 18th freshman leadership students attended the Leadership Unmuted virtual conference, hosted by CADA. This event discussed topics related to motivation.
After attending the leadership conference and contributing to various ASB challenges I have gained more confidence in public speaking assignments. I have also extended my social circle beyond the friendships established before high school. However, within the freshman leadership team, I have yet to feel fully embraced as part of the group. This is something I would like to correct through positive interactions. Niki has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and engage others proactively. Her positive outlook and her welcoming attitude are reassuring.
My contributions towards ensuring the Ripon High School campus is a welcoming and positive environment include inviting unfamiliar students to lunch, helping peers find their classes, and sitting with a nervous friend on the first day of class. I also assisted another classmate by explaining a mathematical equation to which they did not understand. I believe these actions are small steps toward positively impacting the culture on campus.
